Fernandes Emerges as Summer Transfer Target

Matues Fernandez is one of the most discussed names in the summer transfer window. The midfielder's performances have caught the attention of clubs across Europe, including Real Madrid and several Premier League sides.

West Ham is demanding £80 million for the player’s signature from the relegated side; Roberto De Zerbi's Spurs have entered the race to sign Mateus Hernandez from West Ham in the summer with serious interest, according to Matteo Moretto. Spurs are active in the pursuit of the Portuguese international along with progressing a deal for Sandro Tonali from Newcastle United.

Manchester United Lead the Race

Manchester United is the frontrunner in the Mateus Fernandes deal; they have already held several rounds of talks with Mateus Fernandes's agents over potential fees and salary at Manchester United, but United is not ready to match the asking price of £80 million from West Ham.

Real Madrid Monitoring Situation

Real Madrid have mentioned the player in their internal discussions but haven’t made any formal approaches to sign the player. They may likely enter the discussions after the departure of one of the high-profile names in the midfield because Mateus Fernandes is highly appreciated by Jose Mourinho.

Spurs Push for Agreement

Matteo Mretto reported that the player is open for a move to the London club, and Tottenham Hotspur is very close to reaching an agreement with Mateus Fernandez on the contract at the club. Tottenham are progressing discussions with the player's camp but are yet to open formal negotiations with West Ham.

Negotiations with West Ham are expected to be challenging, with the club holding firm on their £80 million valuation.

Matues Fernandez landed at West Ham United from Southampton in the summer of 2025 for £38m, and now he has become one of the sellable assets in the team to overcome financial consequences caused by relegation to the Championship.

De Zerbi is Building a New Project

Spurs are chasing the player with serious interest. Following a season they narrowly escaped relegation to the championship, De Zerbi is building a new ambitious project in Spurs; he has already brought in Marco Senesi, Robertson, and Van Hecke and is accelerating the pursuit of both Sandro Tonali and Matues Fernandes.
