Four-time world champions Germany have secured their spot in the knockouts of the 2026 FIFA World Cup with a stunning comeback win against Ivory Coast. Nmecha in midfield had a brilliant day against Ivory Coast while other players suffered to cope with them. Germans had their chances but failed to convert past the Ivorian defense and goalkeeper. Havertz failed to perform up to the expectations when he had the chances to score.
Undav's Heroics Rescue Germany
Nagelsmann made impressive substitutions in the 60th minute by bringing Leweling, Undav, and Amiri to the pitch. The substitutions had an instant impact on the pitch with a goal from Undav assisted by Amiri. Later, Undav scored his second goal in the 94th minute, breaking Ivorian hearts and marking the entry of Germany into the knockouts since 2014.
Questions Remain for Germany
Germany cruised past Curaçao in their opening fixture, but this match exposed some of the challenges they face against physical and defensively organized opponents. The starting spot of Kai Havertz might be in danger after the game-changing performance from Undav in this game.
