  • Inter Milan are pushing for Djed Spence as Tottenham considers a €30m sale, with the England international open to a move this summer.

Inter Milan step up Djed Spence pursuit

Inter Milan emerged as a serious contender for English fullback Djed Spence from Tottenham Hotspur, according to The Athletic. The Nerazzurri are in direct talks with Spurs to sign him for a fee around €30 million to replace Denzel Dumfries, who left the club as a free agent for Real Madrid.

Interest in Spence is also justified from a tactical standpoint. The player has the speed to get back defensively, as well as the capability to advance with the ball in order to attack. Having played on both sides of the flank makes him more versatile and able to cover either of the wing-back positions for the entire season.

Tottenham open to Spence departure

Spurs and the player are keen on a move, as he is not the first choice for manager Roberto De Zerbi for either the left-back or right-back role. De Zerbi prefers Udogie as the primary left back and World Cup winner Pedro Porro as the first-choice right back.

That competition could leave Spence with limited opportunities, making a move to Inter an attractive option for a player seeking more consistent first-team football.

Spence's Journey at Tottenham

Spence joined Spurs in 2022, but until the summer of 2024, he had loan spells with Leeds United, Rennes, and Genoa. He shone for the team when the Spurs' defense faced an injury crisis in the 2024-25 season under Ange Postecoglou. He was not registered for the Europa League squad, but he impressed the fanbase with his performance in both left-back and right-back roles in the Premier League. He later appeared in the squad for the Europa League final and appeared in the game as a substitute.

Why the €30m valuation has raised eyebrows

The major frustration for fans regarding the deal is the reported transfer fee, which is €30 million, which is considered a very low fee for a player who started for England even in the 2026 FIFA World Cup semi-final and delivered an impressive performance against Argentina.

While Tottenham and Inter are reportedly discussing a fee, Spence has yet to reach an agreement over personal terms with the Italian club. The proposed transfer therefore remains dependent on progress between all three parties.
