Bournemouth Step Up Interest
AFC Bournemouth is targeting Portuguese defender Tiago Gabriel from Serie A club Lecce, reports Di Marzio.
Following the departure of Marco Senesei and continued interest in their backline from bigger clubs, Bournemouth is actively exploring options to strengthen the squad ahead of next season.
Premier League Rivals Previously Tried
The 21-year-old was targeted by Brentford in the January transfer window, but the deal fell off due to disagreements over the transfer fee of the player. In January, Brentford offered €17 million + €3 million add-ons, but Lecce rejected the bid.
West Ham, Juventus, Inter Milan, and AC Milan have scouted this player in the past few months, but Bournemouth has intensified their interest in the defender as per the report.
Defender Impresses in Serie A
Tiago Gabriel has emerged as one of Serie A's most promising young defenders following his impressive performances since arriving in Italy.
Tiago rose through the ranks of Sporting CP and Vitória Setúbal in Portugal. Then he debuted in senior football with Estrela da Amadora in 2023. After spending two years with the club, he joined Lecce for €1.5 million in the 2025-26 season.
Strengths and Playing Style
Despite being 21 years old, he impressed in Serie A with his maturity and defensive discipline on the ground.
Tiago is not an elite passer in the defense, but he possesses decent passing along with impressive aerial ability and defensive awareness. His 194 cm frame, aerial dominance, and composure have helped him develop into a commanding presence at the heart of the defense.
Lecce Hold Firm on Valuation
Tiago Gabriel is one to watch in the summer transfer window, with multiple clubs following the player for his signature.
Lecce demands €30 million for the player, but AFC Bournemouth wants the player for a reduced fee.
