Nico Paz's Future Remains Uncertain

The future of Argentine midfielder Nico Paz is uncertain due to the conflicts of interest between the player's former club, Real Madrid, and his current club, Como.

The 21-year-old player is a product of the Real Madrid youth system, joining the club at age 12 in 2016, and he debuted for the senior team in January 2022 at age 18. In the summer transfer window of 2024, the player joined newly promoted Serie A club Como for a €6 million fee.

Real Madrid Retain Control

Real Madrid retained major control over the player’s future with 50% of his economic rights and a buyback clause of €6 million until the summer of 2027. The player had two outstanding seasons with Como under Fabregas, which significantly raised the player’s valuation.

According to Dimarzio, Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho doesn’t count on Nico Paz in the Real Madrid squad, which gives a new market opportunity to gain more financial benefits from the deal.

Real Madrid Explore a Resale Strategy

The decision regarding the player's future is completely in the hands of Real Madrid as per Fabrizio Romano. He reported that Real Madrid wants to activate the buy option for the player in the summer and resell him to Como or any other clubs that are interested for a higher fee.

Como Determined to Keep Their Star

Real Madrid doesn't want any sell-on clauses, buy-back options, or loans for the player in the future, but they want to cash the player in the summer to generate funds. While Como is not happy with the stance of Real Madrid, the Italian club groomed Nico Paz for past years and developed him into one of the best players in Serie A. He was the best player in Como's 2025-26 campaign, where they secured a Champions League spot for next season; they want to participate in the Champions League with Nico Paz and don’t want to lose the player.

Why the Negotiations Are Complicated

Real Madrid is planning to activate the buyback option and may resell Nico Paz to Como, but for a higher fee. Since Como doesn't want to pay the higher fee and needs control over the player till next summer, the future of Nicopaz is more uncertain than ever due to the conflict of both clubs; however, Real Madrid has full control over the scenario.

Real Madrid and Como will be having a direct meeting this week in Madrid to decide the future of the player, reports Fabrizio Romano.
