Brighton Reach Agreement for Pascal Struijk

Brighton agreed to terms with Leeds United to sign Pascal Struijk in the summer to fill the void of Paul van Hecke in the team. Struijk’s contract was set to expire next year, and Leeds United put up multiple offers in front of the player, but he decided to move on from the Yorkshire club for a new challenge, as per The Athletic.

According to Sky Sports, Brighton is signing the player for a package of £15m as a fixed fee plus £3m in potential add-ons. This deal came as a surprise for Leeds United fans without that many leaks regarding the discussion between the player and the club.

Struijk has a huge opportunity to shine in Brighton following the departure of important center backs, including Van Hecke and Adam Webster.

Tactical Fit at Brighton

Pascal Struijk is seen as an ideal fit for Fabian Hürzeler, with the player's quality on the ball; he is an excellent passer of the ball by splitting the first line of the opponent's press and possesses exceptional domination in aerial duels along with 8 years of experience in English football.

He can also handle multiple positions, including center back, left back, and defensive midfielder roles, which resemble modern-day Dutch defenders like Micky van de Ven and Jurrien Timber.

Leeds Lose Defensive Leader

The Dutchman joined Leeds from Ajax in 2018 and debuted for the team in the championship under Marcelo Bielsa. Slowly he became a vital part of Leeds United's starting 11, which led to a contract extension till 2027. In the summer of 2022, Leeds put their all into keeping the player with them, but Struijk’s decision is to look for a new challenge in Fabian Hürzeler's Brighton.

The departure of the Dutch man will create a huge vacuum in the defense of Leeds United, which is to be filled with new additions.

Brighton Need More Defenders

Brighton will continue their exploration in the market for defenders to replace the departures and strengthen the squad to compete for the UEFA Europa Conference League next year. They want to sign Lukas Vuskovic from Tottenham Hotspur, but Spurs are not willing to accept a permanent transfer for the Croat center back.
