Why are Newcastle interested in Nico?
Nico's profile could suit Newcastle better than it did City. He is more comfortable driving forward, carrying the ball through midfield, and pressing aggressively than controlling games from deep. Those qualities could fit Jaissle's more energetic approach, while his physicality and ability to resist pressure would add another dimension to Newcastle's midfield.
Nico came through Barcelona's academy and made 37 first-team appearances before moving to Porto in 2023. Manchester City signed him in February 2025 as midfield cover following Rodri's injury.
