Felix Nmecha Re-Emerges as Target
Newcastle United are exploring a move for Borussia Dortmund midfielder Felix Nmecha as they prepare for the possible departure of Sandro Tonali, according to Sky Sports' Keith Downie.
Sandro Tonali has already agreed to personal terms with Tottenham Hotspur for a move in the summer, but Spurs are negotiating with Newcastle to reduce the asking price of the player, which is £100 million. As Tonali is the primary target for Dezerbi, Newcastle is exploring quality alternatives for the Italian in the market and considering a deal for Nmecha.
Newcastle tried to sign Nmecha back in 2023 while he was in VFL Wolfsburg, but they ended up signing Sandro Tonali from AC Milan.
Why Eddie Howe Wants Nmecha
The midfielder joined Borussia Dortmund in 2023. Now the player has become a vital part of the team's starting 11 in both club and country. Nmecha, standing at 6'3", blends elite ball-carrying, progressive passing, and aerial strength in the middle of the pitch, which makes him a perfect player for Eddie Howe's high-intensity system.
Dortmund Hold Strong Position
The 25-year-old has a contract with Borussia Dortmund running until 2030 and a release clause on his contract worth £73.5m (€85m), but Newcastle doesn't want to pay the release clause for Nmecha and is looking to sign the player for a fee less than the release clause.
The player is also linked to Manchester United, but he is not the priority target of Manchester United in the summer.
