Newcastle reject second Jacob Murphy bid as Forest offer £15m

Newcastle United have rejected a second approach from Nottingham Forest for Jacob Murphy, with Craig Hope reporting that a £15 million offer has been turned down. Forest's latest proposal comes after Newcastle rejected an initial £10m bid last weekend, with the Magpies continuing to insist that they want to keep the 31-year-old despite his contract entering its final year.

Murphy's importance to the Newcastle squad

Newcastle and the player were open for a move earlier in the window, but newly appointed manager Mathias Jaissle, following the dismissal of Eddie Howe, wants to keep the player on the team for another season, considering his seniority and depth of attack in the team.

The forward joined Newcastle United in the summer of 2017 from Norwich City. Since he is an important squad player for Newcastle United, he also had two loan spells with West Brom and Sheffield. Murphy was key for Eddie Howe in this squad; he delivered 8 goals and 12 assists in the 2024-25 Premier League campaign for Newcastle and helped them to win the Carabao Cup title in the same season with 4 goal contributions. 

Murphy's output dropped last season, but he remained a useful squad option, particularly in Europe.

Why Newcastle Value Murphy's experience

With his experience and ability to make an impact in the final minutes of the game with his runs and decision-making, as well as his leadership quality and impact in the dressing room, he became a favorite for Mathias Jaissle. His preference has strengthened Newcastle's stance on keeping Murphy for another season, especially following the departure of key attacking figures, including Woltemade and Antony Gordon.

Murphy is understood to be open to Newcastle's decision and could remain at his boyhood club for another season if the Magpies continue to reject offers. With Forest yet to meet Newcastle's valuation, the winger's future remains one to watch before the transfer window closes.
