Koeman stepped down after the Netherlands suffered a shock Round of 32 defeat to Morocco despite entering the tournament as one of the favorites. During his second spell, he guided Oranje to the UEFA Euro 2024 semi-finals before overseeing their disappointing World Cup campaign.

Slot is viewed as an attractive option because of his attacking philosophy, experience in Dutch football, and strong relationships with several current Netherlands internationals. Arne Slot has managed several Dutch clubs in his career before the Liverpool job, including Cambuur, Feyenoord, and PSV; therefore, he is deeply connected with Dutch football and players, which makes him one of the suitable options for the job.

In his last job at Liverpool, he won the Premier League with the team with high-intensity attacking football, but he got sacked at the end of the second season and replaced by Spanish manager Andoni Iraola following a disappointing Premier League season.
