Key Points & Highlights
  • Roberto Mancini's Manchester City contract is at the center of a financial case involving alleged additional payments through Al Jazira.

Manchester City has been found in breach of 114 out of 115 charges for breaching the Premier League's financial regulations following the inquiry of the independent commission. Roberto Mancini's compensation during his time as Manchester City manager has emerged as a key issue in the club's financial case, with allegations concerning an official City contract and a separate agreement involving Abu Dhabi club Al Jazira.

How the alleged double-contract arrangement worked

Gazzetta reports that Mancini's official city salary was equivalent to about €1.69m net annually, while an additional agreement involving Al Jazira allegedly provided another €2.03m for consultancy work, reportedly amounting to around four days a year. Gazzetta says the payments allegedly involved Italy International Services and a chain involving Manchester City, Abu Dhabi United Group, and Al Jazira. Mancini allegedly received the payments through a company linked to him called Italian International Services.

Accusations against the club claim that Manchester City used a contract on another club to bypass the financial regulations of UEFA and failed to reveal the exact salary paid to the manager.

In the recent investigation by an independent commission, the Premier League giants are found guilty on many similar cases for paying an extra amount for players and managers, which is not revealed in the financial records.

Manchester City denies the allegations

Manchester City ownership has denied every claim, and planning to appeal against the verdict meanwhile Premier League clubs are preparing to file lawsuits against Manchester City for the charges
