Liverpool complete Araújo loan signing
Liverpool has officially announced the arrival of Uruguayan center back Ronald Araujo for a season-long loan from Barcelona. The deal includes a €50 million buy option for Liverpool after the end of the loan period. This deal is considered beneficial for both clubs as well as the player.
The major catch in the deal is not the buy option but the willingness of Liverpool to cover 100% of the player's salary for next season, however, Araujo has taken a significant pay cut to join Liverpool on the loan.
Barcelona receive major financial relief
Liverpool covering the wages is a huge financial boost for Barcelona, as the center back is one of the biggest earners in the club, earning £300,000 a week before tax. With the loan deal, Barca is able to remove this sum from their wage book, and it would give Barcelona additional room within their wage structure as they look to register and accommodate new arrivals.
Apart from that, Hansi Flick already told the player that he will not be a key player for the team in the new season, so it will be a huge financial setback for Barcelona to pay £300,000 a week. For a player who is not expected to be a regular starter, moving his salary off Barcelona's wage bill provides significant financial flexibility.
Barcelona has options like Pau Cubarsí, Christensen, and Jules Koundé to use in the right center-back role, and Araujo's struggle to adapt to Flick's aggressive high-line defensive system is the reason why both the club and player want a move, despite him being one of the most experienced defenders on the team.

Meanwhile, Liverpool was looking for a profile like Araujo, who can play as both a center back and cover the right back area while also being physical, quick, and aggressive.
The arrival of the 27-year-old is a boost for Liverpool, who are struggling due to recurring injury issues in the defense. Following the departure of Ibrahim Konate to Real Madrid, their defense became thinner, and Givernani Leoni, Joe Gomez, and Jeremy Jacquet are injured, which may keep them out of opening weeks in the Premier League.
Right-back options, including Jeremy Frimpong and Conor Bradley, also faced several injury concerns last season.
