Liverpool Win the Race for Victor Muñoz

Liverpool have activated the €40 million release clause for Spanish winger Victor Muñoz from Osasuna in a lightning-fast transfer agreement. The player was close to joining Newcastle United, and talks were in advanced stages, but Liverpool hijacked the player, with Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes spearheading the talks, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Victor Munoz is the first signing under new Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola, who took charge only a few weeks back. Uncertainty around the future of left wingers Chiesa and Cody Gakpo is a key factor that led Liverpool to pursue signing the 22-year-old forward.

Player had a remarkable season with Osasuna with 8 goal contributions in La Liga, which opened Muñoz's door for a Spanish national team debut and a place in Spain's squad for the 2026 World Cup.

From La Masia to Anfield

Munoz was part of La Masia before joining Real Madrid at the age of 17. At Real Madrid, he had impressive growth from the second reserve team to Castilla Real Madrid B and the senior team in the span of 3 years.

In the summer of the 2025-26 season, Munoz transferred to Osasuna for a fee of €5 million plus €1 million add-ons, but Real Madrid kept 50% of player rights with a three-year buy-back option.

Why Liverpool Wanted Muñoz

Munoz is a versatile player in the final third who can play on the left and right wings of the pitch, but he is primarily a right-footed left winger.

The forward is one of the fastest players in La Liga, with a recorded speed of 35.45 km/h during matches. Munoz is a substantial threat during counterattacks with his explosive pace. He is a stellar carrier of the ball with close control and the ability to take on players in 1v1 situations alongside his pace.

The player's ability to manipulate the ball while running and his off-the-ball movements are among Muñoz's key strengths on the pitch.

Munoz was deployed as a striker during his time at Real Madrid. He is a good finisher of the ball with excellent shot-taking technique. The 22-year-old has good goal-scoring records with Real Madrid's reserve teams, where he played as a striker.

A Perfect Fit for Iraola's System

Munoz brings multiple qualities, including direct attacking threat, off-the-ball work rate, goal-scoring ability, and versatility that Andoni Iraola's system demands in the Premier League.

The player is set to sign a 6-year-long deal with Liverpool officially, and Muñoz has completed his medicals for the Scousers at Spain's World Cup camp in Atlanta.
