Liverpool Part Ways With Arne Slot
Liverpool decided to part ways with Dutch manager Arne Slot with immediate effect following the team's fifth-place finish in the Premier League, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The decision is taken after the end-of-season review by Liverpool management.
Arne Slot joined Liverpool following the departure of Jurgen Klopp in 2024. Slot was managing Dutch club Feyenoord before starting his reign at Anfield.
The 3-year spell at Feyenoord was successful, with an Eredivisie and KNVB Cup before earning the opportunity to succeed Jürgen Klopp at Liverpool.
Premier League Glory Raised Expectations
Arne Slot started his first season at Liverpool with no signings but with a group of players recruited by the previous manager. Slot successfully managed the team in his first season using high-pressing tactics and counterattacks.
Outstanding performances from Mohammed Salah, Ryan Gravenberch and Virgil van Dijk helped the team secure the Premier League trophy after 4 years with an 84-point finish.
The immediate success after Klopp’s departure gave the impression that Arne Slot would be the long-term managerial solution for Liverpool, but things started to fall apart from the start of the 2025-26 season.

Liverpool invested over €400 million to recruit world-class players including Alessander Isak, Florian Wirtz, Milos Kerkez and Frimpong, but all these signings failed to shine on the big stage for the team.

Slot, criticised for his tactical decisions and game management, faced backlash for including Cody Gakpo in the starting XI despite a calamitous performance and not giving minutes to Italian winger Federico Chiesa on the left wing.
The Dutch manager also came under scrutiny for the way he managed Mohammed Salah this season.
In both seasons under Arne Slot, Liverpool's European campaigns ended in the Round of 16 and quarter-finals, respectively, which raised doubts about Slot's ability to deliver success in Europe.

Slot is stepping down from the job after winning the prestigious Premier League trophy in 2025, which makes him a remarkable figure in the hearts of fans. In the statement regarding Slot’s departure, Liverpool management stated:

Liverpool are actively trying to bring former AFC Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola to Anfield to succeed Arne Slot. The Spanish manager has already rejected offers from AC Milan is now most likely to be the next Liverpool manager.
