Monaco move quickly for Filipe Luís
Former Flamengo manager and player Filipe Luís has attracted interest from several European clubs since he stepped down as Flamengo manager in the beginning of March.
He was targeted by Chelsea before eventually appointing Xabi Alonso as their manager, and Bayer Leverkusen were in active talks appointing Felipe Luis as their manager, but AS Monaco made a surprise move behind the scenes to bring the Brazilian coach to the club, with both parties reaching an agreement until June 2028, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Flamengo success attracts European attention
The former player, who had lengthy spells with clubs like Atletico Madrid, Chelsea, Deportivo, and Flamengo, began his coaching journey with under-17 and under-20 teams.
After winning trophies with both the under-17 and under-20 teams, he was promoted to manager of the Flamengo senior team.
In the manager role, he led the team to major trophies, including the Copa Libertadores and Campeonato Brasileiro Série A in 2025, which earned him recognition from top European clubs, including Chelsea and Atlético Madrid.
Monaco recently parted ways with their Belgian manager, Sébastien Pocognoli, due to a 7th-place finish in the Ligue 1 season.
Thiago Scuro leads Monaco negotiations
Following the departure of Sébastien Pocognoli, Monaco immediately started the pursuit of Filipe Luís and reached an agreement on a two-year contract despite competition, according to reports.
CEO of AS Monaco, Thiago Scuro, led the move to secure the signature of the Brazilian manager despite recent uncertainty surrounding Thiago Scuro's future at the club.
