Rushworth Prioritises Coventry Move

Carl Rushworth is pushing for a permanent move from Brighton & Hove Albion to Coventry City following the Sky Blues' promotion to the Premier League. The 25-year-old goalkeeper spent his 2025-26 season with the West Midlands club and was a vital part of Lampard’s team as the first-choice goalkeeper.

Brighton are keen to keep Rushworth as Bart Verbruggen's backup, but the goalkeeper is prioritizing regular first-team football and a permanent exit. He joined the club in 2019 and spent every year on second- and third-division clubs as a loanee. His successful loan spells have accelerated his development and attracted interest from several Premier League clubs.

Newcastle's Approach Rejected

According to Alex Crook of TalkSPORT, Newcastle United wants to sign the English goalkeeper and made inquiries through intermediaries about a move in the summer, but the player rejected the approach and told them of his intention to join Coventry City in the summer to get regular playing time under Frank Lampard.

He believes that a move to the newly promoted side will provide a better pathway to a Champions League club and England call-up.
