Chelsea Agrees to Deal for Maxence Lacroix
Chelsea has reached full agreement with Crystal Palace for bringing the French defender Maxence Lacroix to Stamford Bridge to strengthen the defense. The West London club will pay a transfer fee around £52 million to the neighbors for securing the signature of the 26-year-old with a 6-year contract, according to David Ornstein of The Athletic.

Chelsea Strengthen Injury-Hit Defence
Chelsea believes Lacroix can address one of the squad's biggest concerns following several seasons disrupted by defensive injuries and inconsistency. In the last few seasons, they struggled due to recurring injury issues of players including Wesley Fofana and Levi Colwill and inconsistent performances of other key defenders on the team, including Tosin, Chalobah, and Badiashile.
Strong Injury Record Offers Encouragement
One of Lacroix's biggest strengths is his availability. Aside from a shoulder injury that sidelined him for around 70 days during the 2022/23 season, he has largely avoided serious fitness problems throughout his senior career.

The player is right-footed and could play on the right side of both a 3-man defense and a 4-man defense. He possesses outstanding quality with the ball to play short passes and long passes from the heart of defense. Lacroix has displayed exceptional defensive performance in Crystal Palace with his physical presence, tackles, and aerial dominance against strikers.
He was one of the key players for the Eagles that won the 2024-25 FA Cup, the 2025 FA Community Shield, and the 2025-26 UEFA Conference League.
The right-footed central defender was also a part of the French squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and featured in the semifinal and losers' final match as a replacement for William Saliba. Even though his strong foot is right, he can comfortably use his left foot and play in the left half of the defense.
