Morgan Rogers is on the verge of completing a £117 million move from Aston Villa to Chelsea, a deal set to make him the most expensive British footballer in history, according to The Athletic.
Defending Premier League champions Arsenal were the frontrunners to sign the English attacker from Villa, but Chelsea hijacked the deal and reached a full agreement with both Aston Villa and the player for a long-term contract for 6 years plus an option to extend for another year.
Record-Breaking Deal Nears Completion
The remaining paperwork is expected to be completed within the next 24 hours, with Rogers due in London on Monday to undergo his medical following England's World Cup third-place playoff against France.
Rogers reportedly favored Chelsea's long-term project under Xabi Alonso despite Arsenal offering Champions League football.
His transfer marks the biggest ever exit from Aston Villa and the biggest buy for Chelsea in their history, which is more than the £106 million they paid to Benfica for Enzo Fernández.
