AC Milan has inquired about Nottingham Forest winger Omar Hutchinson for a potential move in the summer following the departure of Rafael Leão from the Italian club, according to Di Marzio. They sanctioned the sale of Portuguese winger Leão to Galatasaray for a package of €45 million and are actively exploring the market to replace him.
Can Hutchinson fill the void left by Leão?
He is an excellent carrier of the ball who could progress the ball through the right wing and centrally, his close control and low center of gravity allowing him to wriggle away from defenders and operate effectively in tight spaces.
Hutchinson could link up with his teammates and break down settled defense by short passing and delivering dangerous crosses to the box. His setpiece delivery also remains a key feature of the Jamaican player.
However, he can occasionally be pushed off the ball by stronger physical defenders, which is an area of his game that continues to evolve with senior experience.
Hutchinson may not replicate Leão's individual qualities, but his technical profile could allow Milan to replace some of the Portuguese winger's creative responsibility in a different way.
Hutchinson's journey from Chelsea to Nottingham Forest
Hutchinson caught the eye of AC Milan with his recent performances with Premier League clubs. He rose through the ranks of Chelsea, Arsenal, and Charlton Athletic; he made his professional debut in January 2023 with Chelsea.
Later he joined Ipswich Town on loan and helped them to secure promotion to the Premier League with 10 goals in that championship campaign. Following the impressive performances, Ipswich signed him on a permanent deal for a club-record fee. After a season with Ipswich in the Premier League, he joined Nottingham Forest for £37 million last summer.
Forest's asking price could decide the move
Hutchinson's first season at Forest may not have delivered consistently, but Milan clearly sees enough potential to explore a move. The biggest question now is whether Forest's valuation will make the deal realistic, with the club yet to reveal its asking price.
